Affiliate Disclosure

I want to be straightforward with you about how this site makes money, because you deserve to know that before you click anything.

Some links on this site are affiliate links

An affiliate link means that if you click it and buy something, I may earn a small commission from that sale. It costs you nothing extra. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you had gone to the shop directly.

Those small commissions pay for the hosting, the domain and the yarn. They are the reason every pattern on The Hook Line Stitcher is free to read, with no subscription and no paywall.

Amazon Associates

The Hook Line Stitcher is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

I may also take part in other affiliate programmes from time to time, usually yarn shops and craft suppliers. The same rules below apply to all of them.

How I decide what to recommend

This is the part that actually matters, so here it is plainly:

  • I only link to things I would genuinely use, or recommend to a friend who was learning.
  • A commission never decides what goes into a tutorial. If a cheaper hook is the better hook for a beginner, that is the one I tell you to buy.
  • If something is not worth the money, I will say so, or I will not mention it at all.
  • Nobody pays me to write a tutorial, and no brand gets to approve or review anything before it goes up.
  • Where a free or cheaper option exists, I will tell you about it.

You never have to use my links. If you would rather search for a product yourself, please do — the tutorial works exactly the same either way, and nothing on this site is hidden behind a purchase.

Where you will see these links

Mostly in the materials list at the top of a tutorial — the yarn weight, the hook size, a stitch marker. Occasionally in a sentence where naming a specific product is genuinely more useful than being vague about it.

Any article containing affiliate links carries a short note saying so near the top, before you reach the links.

Advertising

This site may also display advertising served by third-party ad networks. Those adverts are chosen by the network, not by me, and seeing an advert here is not a recommendation from me. How those networks collect and use data is covered in the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, or you want to know whether a particular link earns me anything, just ask — I will tell you straight. You can reach me through the contact page.

Thank you for reading, and for using the links when you do. It genuinely keeps this place running.
