The Hook Line Stitcher publishes free crochet patterns, stitch guides and tutorials. This page explains what you can reasonably expect from that content, and what we cannot promise. It is written in plain English rather than legal fog.
Table of Contents
TogglePatterns and tutorials are provided as they are
Every pattern and tutorial on this site is offered free of charge and without warranty of any kind. We write them as carefully as we can, but we cannot guarantee that a pattern is free of errors, or that following it will produce a particular result.
If you spot a mistake, please tell us — write to contact@hooklinestitcher.com and we will correct it. Reader corrections make this site better and they are genuinely welcome.
Your results will not match ours exactly
Crochet is not a precise craft, and this matters more than most sites admit.
The same pattern worked by two people produces two different objects. Tension varies between crocheters and even between sessions. Yarn labelled the same weight differs between brands. Hook material, hand position, humidity and how tired you are all change the result.
Where a pattern gives a finished size, a time estimate or a yarn quantity, treat it as a guide rather than a specification. Check your own measurements as you go, and buy a little more yarn than the pattern suggests if colour matching matters to you.
Safety, especially for children
Some patterns on this site produce toys. Please read this part properly.
For any toy intended for a child under three, embroider the eyes and face with yarn. Do not use safety eyes, beads, buttons or any other small attached part, regardless of what the packaging claims about them being child-safe. Small parts are a choking hazard.
Also for very young children: stuff toys firmly so they hold their shape, skip whiskers and loose strands, and weave all ends in securely.
Adult supervision remains necessary. Crochet hooks, scissors, tapestry needles and stuffing are not toys, and finished handmade items are not tested to any commercial toy safety standard.
No professional advice
Nothing on this site is professional, medical, legal or financial advice.
Where we mention repetitive strain, hand pain or ergonomic hooks, that is one crocheter’s experience and not medical guidance. If crochet is causing you pain, stop and speak to a doctor or physiotherapist rather than working through it.
Where we mention selling finished items or pricing your work, that is general comment, not business or tax advice. Your obligations depend on where you live.
Links to other websites
Some articles link to other websites — yarn standards bodies, suppliers, or other makers’ resources — because they are genuinely useful.
We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the site it points to.
Affiliate links and sponsorship
This site does not currently use affiliate links, and no article on it is sponsored or paid for.
If that changes, it will be disclosed clearly and prominently on any page that contains an affiliate link or sponsored content — at the top of the page, not buried in a footer. You will always be told before you click.
We also plan to display advertising on this site in future. Advertising is labelled as such and does not influence which patterns we write or what we say about them.
Using the patterns
You are welcome to sell finished items you make from patterns on this site. Sell them at markets, online, wherever you like. No credit is required, though a link back is always appreciated.
Please do not republish the pattern text, photographs or tutorials themselves, in whole or in part, on another website, in a PDF, or in print. If you would like to share a pattern, link to the page instead.
