Welcome to The Hook Line Stitcher. These terms set out the rules for using hooklinestitcher.com and what you may and may not do with the patterns, tutorials and photographs published here. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
1. About this site
The Hook Line Stitcher publishes free crochet patterns, stitch guides, tutorials and project ideas. Everything here is offered for your personal enjoyment and education. We are not a shop, and no purchase is required to use anything on this site.
2. What you may do with our patterns
Our free patterns exist to be made. You are welcome to:
- make our patterns as many times as you like, for yourself, for gifts, or for charity;
- sell the finished items you make from our free patterns, in small quantities, at craft fairs, markets, or your own online shop. You don’t need to ask permission or pay a fee. A credit linking back to the original pattern is appreciated but not required;
- print a copy of a pattern for your own use while you work.
3. What you may not do
The patterns, written instructions, photographs, videos and article text on this site are our original work and are protected by copyright. You may not:
- copy, republish, translate or redistribute any pattern or tutorial, in whole or in part, in any format — including blogs, PDFs, video, social media posts, forums, or printed material;
- sell, license or give away the pattern itself, whether free or paid, altered or unaltered;
- use our photographs on your own website, shop listings, or social accounts without written permission;
- claim our designs, instructions or photos as your own work;
- mass-produce items from our patterns at commercial or factory scale;
- use any content from this site to train machine learning or AI systems.
If you want to share a pattern with someone, link to the page rather than copying the content. That costs you nothing and keeps the site alive.
4. Sharing on Pinterest and social media
Pins and shares are genuinely welcome, and they’re how most people find us. You may share one photograph from a post, provided it links directly back to the original page on hooklinestitcher.com and the pattern instructions themselves are not reproduced in the caption, image, or anywhere else. Please don’t create round-up posts, videos, or collections that reproduce our written instructions — a title, a single photo and a link is always fine.
5. Accuracy, and the absence of guarantees
We write and test our patterns carefully, but crochet is not an exact science. Tension, hook size, yarn weight, fibre content and individual technique all change the outcome, and mistakes occasionally survive proofreading. All content is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that a pattern is free of errors, that your finished piece will match the photographs, or that the site will always be available or uninterrupted.
We recommend making a gauge swatch before starting anything where fit or size matters.
6. Safety
Crochet involves sharp hooks, scissors, and sometimes small components. Please use common sense, and supervise children who are crafting.
Take particular care with toys and amigurumi. Safety eyes, noses, buttons, beads, stuffing and small appliqués are choking hazards. Items intended for babies and children under three should be made with embroidered features only, securely fastened, and checked regularly for wear. You are responsible for assessing the safety and suitability of anything you make, especially for children, and we accept no liability for items made from our patterns.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Hook Line Stitcher and anyone associated with it will not be liable for any loss, injury, cost or damage — direct or indirect — arising from your use of this site, from following any pattern, tutorial or advice published here, or from any item made using our content.
8. External links and third parties
We link to other websites — yarn suppliers, designers, tools and reference material — because we think they’re useful. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability, products, or practices. Some links may be affiliate links, meaning we could earn a small commission at no additional cost to you; where that applies, it is disclosed on the post.
9. Comments and anything you submit
If you leave a comment or send us content, you confirm it is your own and doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights, and you give us permission to display it on the site. Please keep it civil and relevant. We reserve the right to edit or remove any comment — spam, abuse, self-promotion and anything unlawful in particular — without notice or explanation.

We may add, change, move or remove content at any time without notice, and the site may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control. Free patterns are offered as a courtesy and we cannot guarantee that any particular piece of content will remain available.

These terms may be updated from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top will always show the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
